Description

Patrol (foot, bicycle, and vehicle) assigned area(s) to provide personal safety of university community populace, and provide protection and security for university facilities; maintain orderly flow of traffic, investigate accidents, respond to complaints, disturbances, and law investigations make arrests and apprehensions, issue parking and moving citations, assist other law enforcement agencies, fire department and emergency medical technicians.

Take initial police reports; conduct preliminary investigations, including security of crime scene, collection and preservation of evidence, maintaining the chain of custody of evidence.

Crowd control during all types of catastrophes, which may affect the university community; crowd, traffic and security control during athletic and other special events (The percentage of time spent in this area will increase/decrease dependent upon university needs). Sometimes a great deal of overtime is required to meet the need.

Provide armed escort for university monies.

Attends training classes.

Appearance and testimony in judicial proceedings.

Special tactical assignments including surveillance and intelligence gathering as determined by crime trends and/or as directed by university officials.

Miscellaneous duties.

Provide escort for ill or injured students not requiring ambulance transport to and from medical facilities.

This position is designated as an Essential Employee. Essential employees provide vital support to the UF and are subject to recall to work when deemed necessary by the Chief of Police/designee. Recall to work typically happens due to an emergency, disaster or special event that may coincide with the official suspension of classes and/or closing of offices.

Minimum Requirements
Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or equivalent 2 year degree from an accredited educational institution required. Must meet Florida statutory and Administrative Code requirements. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statutes. Previous law enforcement experience preferred.


Law Enforcement Officer Trainee – Non Certified

Starting salary – $18.63/HR – $38,899.44/YEARLY

Description
Candidates who hold no law enforcement certification and require sponsorship for the police academy or cross-over academy.

The training consists of 770 contact hours (24 week course, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week). UFPD will provide all books, materials, and uniforms. After successful completion of the Basic Recruit Course and the State Certification Exam, non-certified officers are promoted into the Certified Police Officer job classification, and given the related salary increase. Those selected for hire will receive pay and full benefits during this training period.

Police Communications Operator

Starting salary – $15.15/HR

Description
The Communications Section is the heartbeat of the University of Florida Police Department comprised of ordinary men and women who does extraordinary work. We tackle real world campus community problems often during difficult times by receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency law enforcement services and emergency medical and fire services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We provide six (6) paid weeks of training to prepare employees for the state certification examination plus an additional nine (9) weeks of individualized on-the-job training to increase competency and skills required to perform successfully. Employees learn theories while putting them into practice in order to make the right decision the first time every time. Employees receives ongoing support and training for long term retention of knowledge and skills.

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience.  Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.


Police Service Technician

Starting salary – $15.00/HR

Description
Foot patrol (vehicle or foot) assigned area of the Health Center facility to safeguard against trespassing, thefts, fire, and other hazards. Patrol through buildings, report suspicious activity/person(s), clear building of unauthorized persons; check with authorized personnel in building on a regular basis to ensure personal safety; provide escorts when requested; ensure that doors are properly secured and/or opened upon authorized request; windows are closed and lights off when facilities are not in use; monitor service drives for parking violations; assist law enforcement agencies, fire department and other emergency personnel.
