Communications

The Communications Division is an essential component of UFPD, operating a dedicated, on-campus Communications Center within UFPD headquarters that serves as the central hub for coordinating law enforcement and public safety operations across campus. Staffed 24/7 by highly trained and certified Police Communications Operators (PCOs), the division ensures every call is answered, and every incident is managed with accuracy and urgency.
All PCOs are certified by the Florida Department of Health, receive training from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and are cross-trained to serve as both call-takers and dispatchers. As call-takers, they are responsible for answering and screening emergency and non-emergency calls—including law enforcement, fire, and medical incidents—and entering critical information into the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. As dispatchers, they assign the appropriate first responders, provide essential updates, and coordinate resources to ensure a timely and effective response.
In addition to handling calls for service, the Communications Division monitors all campus fire and security alarms and oversees the emergency blue phone system. Communication with law enforcement personnel and partnering agencies is maintained through an 800 MHz trunked radio system, enabling real-time coordination with local public safety partners.
With professionalism, precision, and a commitment to service, the Communications Division plays a critical role in protecting the Gator community.
